Collaboration

It’s been a long time since the beginning of this project, over 18 months of working with Charlotte Hodes, on her project Conversations En Plein Air. It’s currently on show at the Ariana Museum in Geneva, and I was fortunate enough to go to Geneva to the opening of the show last week. Together we made lots of vases, which I threw on the pottery wheel, the shapes were inspired by a select few of the vases in the Collections at the Ariana. Together we worked on the vases in my studio. Creating our own large unique collection of coloured slips, to decorate the vases, as colour is a key feature of Charlotte’s work. Colouring the clay and rolling out slabs of clay to cut out Charlotte’s paper cut stencils, while exploring with extruding to create shapes and ornaments on the vases.

Taking the elements from Charlotte’s large collages which are positioned on the exhibition walls opposite the vases, these elements are echoed through all the works in the show. It’s been a wonderful experience working alongside Charlotte, and I am very proud of the vases we’ve created. Throwing large scale vases is a challenging job, but the results have been enjoyable to see come together in this incredible show.

If you’re in Geneva then do check the show out it’s on till May 2024.

Here are just some of the test tiles of the slips created for this project.

If you’d like to see more of Charlotte’s work then take a look at her website. I’d like to specially thank Charlotte for this opportunity and her support and encouragement over the last year and a half.
